Ethos describes the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, i.e., your child. Ethos is the power essential to one’s success and well-being in life. To constructively groom the ethos in our children requires two essential elements. The first element is the critical understanding of the uniqueness of the individual child regarding his/her endowed temperament, developmental tasks at different stages, strengths, and limitations, as well as our own personalities, values and beliefs. The second element is effective parenting with flexible application of strategies adaptive to the individual child and the context. Both elements require up-to-date knowledge, an adaptive mindset, and effective mood management as parents.
